Doheny Longboard Surfing Association
Dana Point, CA
A Dana Point longboard club active since 1988, the DLSA runs surf contests and social events at Doheny State Beach, provides student scholarships, and supports state parks and local charities. Signature events include the Menehune & Surfin' 60s contest and the Velzy Surf Contest & Luau honoring surfboard builder Dale Velzy.
Malibu Surfing Association
Malibu, CA
Founded in November 1961 as one of California's first surf clubs, the MSA is dedicated to promoting surf culture and protecting the surfing environment at Malibu. It hosts the annual MSA Classic invitational contest at First Point / Surfrider Beach, a tradition tracing back to the first Malibu contest in 1963.
Pacific Beach Surf Club
San Diego, CA
Originally founded in 1957 and revived in 1994, the Pacific Beach Surf Club is a nonprofit member club in San Diego and a member of the Coalition of Surfing Clubs. It runs beach cleanups, surf clinics, and coalition contests up and down the California coast.
San Onofre Surfing Club
San Onofre, CA
A membership surf club dedicated to San Onofre State Beach, one of California's historic longboard breaks. Annual membership supports preservation of and continued public access to the beach, and the club runs an event lineup through the year. It is administered out of San Clemente.
Santa Cruz Longboard Union
Santa Cruz, CA
Founded in 1981, the SCLU is a nonprofit longboard club at Steamer Lane in Santa Cruz. It runs the Memorial Day Longboard Invitational, which the club bills as the longest-running longboard contest in the U.S. , competes within the Coalition of Surfing Clubs, and raises money for local nonprofits.
South Bay Boardriders Club
Hermosa Beach, CA
A 501(c)(3) boardriders club based in Hermosa Beach that draws surfers from across the South Bay: Palos Verdes, Redondo, Hermosa, Manhattan, and El Segundo. It runs a surf series and youth surf team and organizes community and shoreline-stewardship events, including its Surfin' Santa toy drive.
Windansea Surf Club
La Jolla, CA
A nonprofit surf club based at Windansea Beach in La Jolla, first formed in 1947 and reformed by Chuck Hasley in 1963 to field a team for the Malibu Invitational. Early members included Mike Hynson, Butch Van Artsdalen, and Skip Frye. The club promotes surfing goodwill and fields teams in coalition surf contests.
